These techniques are both offline and online strategies.

Radio Interviews
This is the audio version of having a newspaper do a story on your business. If your business is interesting, people will want to talk to you about it ? this can be your local AM station or any one of the thousands of web radio programs, all of which are looking for good content.
Press Releases
Both in the physical world for your local stories and in the digital world to get traffic from news wire sources like Google news, submit press releases every time your business does something notable or interesting. There are paid submission services out there that will blast your press release to thousands of sources, or you can save money and do it yourself with the important ones.
Meetup Groups
These serve to drive traffic both through the networking that happens at the meetings as well as the emails and web ?meetings? that happen beforehand.
Joint Ventures
Anytime you try to do anything with anyone else, you could consider it a joint venture. Who is marketing to the same group you are (without directly competing with you)? Can you come up with a creative way to find a win-win co-branding or co-marketing solution to save you and someone else money achieving the same goal?
Associations
Think of these as targeted groups of people who are all very serious about what they do. That makes them highly qualified ? can you bring value to the table and speak at a meeting? Write a helpful article for their newsletter?
Write a Book
Or a pamphlet, or an eBook or a mini-book. Self-publish it, or hit the next NYT bestseller ? either way you’re providing valuable content for your customer base and providing them with something concrete (even if it is digital) to pass along to their associates. And it’s got your name written all over it!
Write an Article
For an online article database (which, in addition to giving you backlinks will also dive traffic from syndication and readership if it’s a quality article) or for a niche trade magazine or local newspaper.
Radio/Podcast
You may have the resources to purchase dedicated air time on local radio waves, but anyone can afford to put together an internet radio program or podcast. You?ll reach out to an entirely different group of customers and readres when you offer streaming content that automatically synchs with their iPods.
SMS Text Messaging
This happens in the real world, but the internet has provided ways to blast SMS texts to many different receivers, or even better you can let your clients and readers sign up to be alerted by SMS text whenever you’re running a special or updating your website.
Endorsed Letter
It doesn’t matter how you distribute it, if you have a letter from someone recognizable or even famous, you can leverage it in tremendous ways. Even writing something on their behalf that they approve of and sign for you will help get you places ? especially if that someone is recognizable or famous in a specific circle of consumers or clients.
Special Report DVD / Audio / Text
These provide similar benefits as writing your own book or eBook ? you?ve produced content that provides value and is interesting and worth watching ? you can even sell this to your customers at a deeply discounted rate.
Calculators / Widgets
We all know the real things are sought after at tradeshows and conventions. Pens with your name on them will disappear quickly ? which you want to see! You can do this digitally as well by creating or finding digital give-away products that you can use to entice newsletter signups or as a special thank-you bonus to your customers.
