Writing Articles and posting them on article directories is a powerful way to generate backlinks. You know your product or subject very well by now, after building content for your own site, you’ve done your keyword research, so you know some keywords that you want to rank for, and now you’re ready to write about it and get those backlinks. Here’s the best way to do that:

If you are NOT a writer, you can hire some of our trained SEO writers on our marketplace. Or, you can use an article writing service like Articlez.com. They charge $3-$6 per article. You send them to a url where they can research the subect, tell them what keyword to use and how often, (best practice is 1% of the time. More than that and you risk becoming spam, less than that and the keyword won’t be recognized) and they will have the article to you in a matter of hours.

1. What do you write about? If you are writing the article, just quickly punch out 300-400 words related to your subject matter. Don’t worry about making the article perfect, you are not focusing at this point that someone read the article and then purchase your product, you are more focused on the backlink at this point. However, keep the article interesting and useful, as this maintains the quality of information on the internet overall. You can make it about anything related to your topic. Try to brainstorm questions people might have about your product, or interesting facts having to do with what you sell. People love articles that include numbers (espcially odd numbers), so you might do an article titled “Top Seven Reasons to Use a (your product here)” or “Top Three FAQs about (your product here)” Or, think of something that concerns your target audience. Answer a problem they have. For example, if I want my site to rank for monogrammed diaper bags, the article would talk about something to do with monogrammed diaper bags. I might talk about “Monogrammed Diaper Bags – Stay Unique as a New Mom!” Then I would discuss how it seems that new moms always have the same accessories as all of their friends, so this is one way to look different. Again, don’t get overly focused on the content. It’s more important to get the article done than to make it perfect.

2. Use your Keywords as Frequently while still sounding natural

While you don’t want to sound like a spammer to your audience or your to the search engines. You do, however, want to use it frequently. Try to use the keywords in the title, in the keywords, and in the tags (once you start setting up an article you will see these items.) Use it as your anchor text, either in the article, or in the Resource Box. (Some article directories won’t allow you to put a link in the article, but they allow you to place it in a Resource Box. Read here to see how to do this)

3. Start Posting!

Set up Free Accounts on the following sites:

Ezine Articles (once you have submitted more than 10 articles here, you will be upgraded to premium, and your articles will be approved more quickly)

GoArticles

Isnare

ArticlesBase

Each of these sites will allow you to use pseudonyms if you don’t want to post using your real names. Once you have your article written and a good resource box prepared, go ahead and submit your article to these sites!

HINT: You are going to use one of your keywords as an anchor text. Do not always link these back to your homepage! If you are using a long tail keyword, and a page within your website is a better “fit” for the article or keyword, link back to that page! For example, if I was writing an article about Hot Pink Zebra Diaper Bags, or using that as my keyword, I would put this link in my backlink, instead of my homepage. This will allow interior pages of my site to rank instead of just the homepage. Then, if someone is searching for this type of bag, they will end up directly on the page of that product, instead of my homepage, which they would then have to search for the hot pink diaper bag. The easier you make it for your prospective customers to find the product they want, the more likely they are to buy your product.

Please see our note on Duplicate Content. Once you have completed this step, you can Spin these Articles and submit them to other places as well!
