There are hundreds of thousands of tools out that there that you *could* find useful. The difficult part is wading through what works well, what is worth the money, and what is really necessary. You could spend hours and hours a day just simply researching and learning to use new tools! The great part for you, as a member of PromotingMom, is that we’ve already done all that work for you.

The very best place to start (start being the keyword here, we will have other tools we will introduce to you that will help your business) is with Google’s tools. Their tools are not only free, but they actually provide every piece of information you’ll ever need to really grow your business (as you’re making money, however, there are paid tools out there that do it faster and better, and make the process easier). Google also has fantastic directions (and videos) on how to set up everything on your site. Before you go to set these up, go ahead and set up a gmail account that is unique to your business (yourname or yourbusinessname@gmail.com) That way you can keep all of these things seperate. These are the tools you’re going to want to put on your site, and start utilizing right away:

1. Google Analytics: This tool is typically associated with Adwords, but you can now use it without having an adwords account. Go HERE and use your gmail account to sign up. (To access it later, just go to Google.com and click on Sign in at the upper left hand corner. Once you’ve signed in, click on the “Settings” option on this screen in the upper left hand corner). Once your account is set up, copy the code provided. Go into your wordpress blog, and click on Appearance, then editor. On the right hand column, click on footer. Paste the code in this box, above the line that says <body>. Watch the video of me doing that here:

2. Google Webmaster Tools: This is a simple matter of setting up an account, and filling out the questions asked. No code pasting here! This will give you information on how Google sees your site. Sign up HERE.

3. Setting Up Goals Within Google

We will refence these tools and information that they provide numerous times, so don’t skip this step!
