Many people have asked us how they can set up a website for their local business (chiropractor, landscape architect, plumber, etc), or online business that is not an ecommerce site and is not a blog (consultant, scrapbooking). In the past five years, this has become such a ridiculously easy process that everyone should have their own website! Simply follow these steps:

1. Choose a URL

2. Register and Host the Website
[ =3,21,22]
3. Install WordPress using Fantastico (no, it’s not a blog, but we’re going to teach you to use WordPress to set up a normal, five page website)

4. Complete the First Steps With WordPress

5. Choose a Template

6. Set up your pages (not posts!) as you want them on your website. Common pages to have are “About Us” “Hours of Business” and “Contact Us.”

7. Make a Page your homepage rather than posts. This video will show you how:

8. Once you have these steps completed, use the Google Keyword Tool to find out what variations of your keywords people are searching for. If you have a cleaning business, do they search for “house cleaning” or “housekeeper” more? Combine it with the name of the city your business is in (House Cleaning Los Angeles, House Cleaning LA, etc) and add this to the title of your website, use it in a page name (permalink), use it in your tags, and your categories. If this does not have you ranking for a highly searched word, build some backlinks to your site using this key phrase as the anchor text. You’ll be getting new clients from Google in no time!
