Tips for Maintaining your Sanity as a Mompreneur
There is no such thing as get rich quick. There is no such thing as get rich easy. Should we say that again? Maybe we should bold it. There is no such thing as get rich quick. There is no such thing as get rich easy.
There is no quick and easy answer, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an answer that will give you what you are looking for. For us, we were moms who wanted to be home with our kids. We also felt a drive for personal and professional success, that brought in income but of course didn’t detract from our #1 priority, our families.
Internet businesses have become that answer for many moms. There are coaching sites out there that will promise you quick and easy riches. Moms, take our word for it as we have been there and tried them, there is no quick and easy riches. But you can find the riches (and whatever that means for you, whether its an extra $1000 a month, or $100,000 a month). It is possible, but you have to be willing to put in a little bit of sweat and tears.
Here are a few tips for making it a smooth transition:
- Make sure you and your spouse are on the same page as far as working as a team when it comes to child/home responsibilities.
- You may have moments where you need to get away to do a few hours of work. Make sure you have family that’s willing to pitch in or some of our mompreneurs have local co-ops where they watch each others kids while the other one works (we love this!)
- Find a place in the house for your business so you can shut the door, and set boundaries for children when it comes to interrupting Mommy.
- Set weekly goals that you think you can stick to
- If you don’t hit your goals, just readjust. Don’t beat yourself up over it, you have a lot on your hands! Cut yourself some slack.
- Make sure you take hours or days off as “you” time. Whether that is alone getting pampered, or spending quality time with the kids. Its important and healthy to keep a good balance and make sure you aren’t overworking yourself.
- Find a good support network, we think we have a pretty fantastic one here at PromotingMom. It is a community where everyone looks out for eachother, we share ideas, we give feedback, we commiserate. Each one of us here wants to see everyone else succeed and we are all “with” eachother in this journey. A network of positive support from people who are embarking on similar journey’s, is essential.
For us, becoming Mompreneurs has been one of the most positive experiences of our lives. We get to be with our kids, but also contribute significantly for our family. It does take some time and work, but if you align yourself with the right resources and set reasonable expectations for yourself, you too will likely find it to be a wonderful opportunity for you and your family.
